Autumn is the perfect time to visit the Greater Copenhagen Region.

With the weather getting more diverse, so do our favorite activities in the region. While we hang onto the nice days and outdoor activities for as long as possible, we also start to embrace cozy indoor events.

Let’s delve deeper into some of the best things you can experience in the Greater Copenhagen Region during autumn.

Cultural delights

As the rainy days come, we love going for some indoor sightseeing. Warm and welcoming museums, haunted castles, and autumn festivals serve our ongoing craving for cozy social activities.

Kulturnatten

Culture Night in Copenhagen kicks off in October. During this night you can discover locations that are typically closed to the public.

Hundreds of museums, cathedrals, theaters, galleries, and parks welcome everyone to their otherwise hidden chambers and special events for this one-night-only event.

Make sure you get your entry ticket aka."Culture Pass" before the night (they get sold out pretty quickly), to get free access to all events and public transport.

Rosenborg Castle in Autumn
Ghost hunting

The Greater Copenhagen Region is overflowing with castles and manors. While the history of those majestic places is well worth exploring, the autumn season, with mist and rain, gives them an even more mystical atmosphere.

There are more than 150 different places built by Swedish nobles that are open to visitors in Skåne. You can even spend the night like a medieval knight in Örenäs Castle, if you're not afraid of ghosts.

Talking about ghosts: if you’re starting the hunt around October, the best place to begin is the Halloween-themed Tivoli Park in the heart of Copenhagen.

In the few weeks leading up to Halloween, the amusement park transforms into a haven for monsters and ghosts hunters.

Get active

A large part of the region is covered with forests that gradually change their hues from vivid green to vibrant red, orange, and yellow.

As the leaves fall, the temperature becomes milder, and the air becomes crisp. Those are perfect conditions to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of nature during a hike.

The beautiful landscape of the region offers a variety of hiking trails for any taste. Vibrant forests and steep cliffs make it a perfect spot for putting on some trekking boots and going on an adventure.

Hard-bitten people who don't mind cold water find the region to be the perfect watersports location during autumn.  Specifically, kite and wind-surfing are very popular during the windy months. On a quiet day, you can kayak through the narrow rivers of Skåne's forests.

Seasonal cuisine

Seas, rivers, and their inhabitants play a big role in our local autumn cuisine.

In Sweden, autumn is equal to the lobster season. After the 20th of September, you can enjoy fresh lobsters everywhere, as the hunting begins.

In addition, you can collect oysters, mussels, and crabs by joining a local fishing boat or learning how to recognize, gather, and prepare seaweed.

There's more foraging to be done if you'd rather stay on land. You won't have to go far to discover blueberries and raspberries in the region’s forests.

In Denmark, local seasonal food is a big part of the region's autumn traditions. You can easily find cozy markets and roadside food stalls filled with fresh vegetables from local farmers.
